The Plaisier family started working in conservation in 1998 on Tui Nature Reserve, a partly regenerating forest, which is located in the Marlborough Sounds.

The young family slowly returned the boat-access only peninsula to its former state and spent nearly twenty years removing mammalian and weed pests from the reserve.

Since then Wildlife Protection Services NZ was created to aid other projects and organisations with environmental work.
The Plaisier family sold the Tui Nature Reserve in late 2020.
